The straight version
North Texas is close to ideal heat-pump country. Our winters are mild enough that a modern heat pump carries the heating load without struggling, and our summers demand a high-quality cooling machine anyway, which a heat pump already is. One system doing both jobs means one piece of equipment to maintain and, for all-electric homes, it’s simply the right answer.
The install matters even more with heat pumps than with straight AC, because the refrigerant circuit works year-round in both directions. Charge weighed to spec, airflow verified, the reversing valve proven in both modes, auxiliary heat staged so it helps on the coldest mornings without hijacking your bill, and the thermostat configured for heat-pump logic rather than furnace defaults. We commission all of it before we leave.
Timing matters more in this trade than most people expect. Spring is the honest window for cooling work, before the first triple-digit week exposes every marginal capacitor and low charge in the county at once. Fall belongs to heat: combustion checks, heat exchanger inspections, and the repairs that are cheap in October and miserable in January. Do heat pumps actually work in Texas winters?
Very well. Our winter design temperatures are comfortably within modern heat-pump range, and auxiliary heat covers the few hard-freeze mornings a year. This climate is the one heat pumps were made for.
Is a heat pump cheaper to run than a furnace?
For all-electric homes, dramatically cheaper than resistance heat. Against natural gas the comparison is closer and depends on rates, and we’ll walk through your actual usage honestly rather than hand you a slogan.
What’s the difference between a heat pump and an AC?
Mechanically they’re near twins. A heat pump adds a reversing valve so the refrigerant cycle can run backward and move heat into the house in winter. Same box outside, twice the job.
How long do heat pumps last?
Twelve to fifteen years typically in our climate, and maintenance matters a bit more because the system runs year-round instead of resting all winter. Our maintenance plan covers both modes.
Can a heat pump replace my gas furnace?
Often, and dual-fuel setups that keep the furnace as backup are also an option worth pricing. Which one wins depends on your gas rates, ductwork, and the house. We’ll lay the choices out plainly.
