Heat Pump Repair

Heat pump repair in both directions

A heat pump can fail heating, fail cooling, or fail in the strange in-between where it runs but never quite gets there. We know all three, and we fix the cause instead of the symptom.

The 2L way

What honest heat pump repair services looks like

Heat pumps add a few uniquely-theirs failure modes on top of everything an air conditioner can do: reversing valves that stick between modes, defrost boards that let the outdoor coil turn into a block of ice, auxiliary heat that either won’t engage on a freezing morning or engages constantly and doubles the bill. To someone who doesn’t work on them regularly, these look mysterious. They aren’t.

The diagnosis follows the physics. Ice on the outdoor unit in winter points at the defrost cycle. Lukewarm air in heat mode with a system that runs forever points at charge or the valve. A bill that suddenly jumped points at strips running when they shouldn’t. We test the implicated circuit, show you the reading, and repair the actual fault at a firm price.

How the visit goes

Call before it gets colder

Describe what the system is doing and we’ll tell you honestly whether it can wait for a standard slot or needs the emergency lane. Heat calls in a cold snap get triaged by household need.

Combustion-safe diagnosis

Heating diagnostics here always include eyes on the burn: flame quality, venting, and exchanger condition, alongside the electrical and control tests. You see what we find and approve the fix at a firm price.

Warm air, verified

After the repair the system runs a full observed cycle: ignition sequence, temperature rise, and safety switches all proven before we pack up. The house warms up and stays that way.

Owner on the job

Why this work comes to 2L, all across Midlothian and the DFW area

Heating season here is short, sharp, and unforgiving, and it’s when honesty matters most, because a no-heat household in a cold snap will approve almost anything. That’s exactly the moment 2L was built for: a firm diagnosis, a fair price, and the same standard at midnight as at noon.

Because heat pumps run all year, wear arrives faster than on a rest-all-winter AC, and small refrigerant losses show up as weak heating before they ever show as weak cooling. If your heat pump has felt off since the season changed, that’s a real signal and worth a diagnostic visit before it becomes a no-heat morning.

Scope of work

Heat pump faults we repair

  • Outdoor unit iced over in winter
  • Blowing lukewarm air in heat mode
  • Stuck in one mode, won’t switch over
  • Auxiliary heat running constantly
  • Defrost cycle failures
  • Loud whooshing or valve noises
  • High bills with no obvious cause

Texas winters get dismissed by people who haven’t lived through a February ice event here. The cold arrives fast, drops hard, and finds every weakness in a heating system the mild months let hide. Because the season is short, heating equipment in DFW often goes years between honest inspections, and that’s exactly how small faults get to become no-heat emergencies during the one week everyone needs the furnace most.

If cost timing is the worry, Synchrony financing lets you approve the work now and pay over time, and you’ll get the same honest quote either way. Regular plan maintenance is the cheaper habit that keeps emergencies rare in the first place.

Questions homeowners actually ask

Straight answers, the same ones you’d get on the phone. If yours isn’t here, call and ask.

My heat pump is covered in ice. Is that normal?

Light frost that melts off periodically is normal, that’s the defrost cycle working. A unit encased in ice that never clears means defrost has failed, and running it that way strains the compressor. Shut it to emergency heat and call us.

Why does my heat pump blow air that feels cool in winter?

Heat pump supply air runs cooler than furnace air by design, around 90 to 100 degrees, which feels neutral to a hand. But if the house is losing ground, something real is wrong: charge, valve, or defrost. We can tell the difference quickly.

What is emergency heat and when should I use it?

It’s your backup electric heat running alone. Use it when the heat pump itself is clearly failed or iced solid, and treat it as a limp-home mode, it’s expensive to run for long. If you’re on emergency heat, that’s your sign to call.

Why did my electric bill double this winter?

The usual culprit is auxiliary strip heat running far more than it should, either from a thermostat misconfiguration or a heat pump too weak to carry the load. Both are diagnosable and fixable, and the bill usually comes right back down.

Do you repair all heat pump brands?

Yes: Trane, Carrier, Goodman, Rheem, Lennox, and the rest. The refrigerant physics doesn’t care about the logo, and neither do we.
