Why is one room always hotter than the rest of the house?

Usually some mix of long duct runs, weak airflow, sun load, and no return path, the room gets less cooling and can’t give its warm air back. The assessment measures which factors are at work in yours, because the fix depends entirely on the cause.

Can you fix a hot room without replacing the system?

Almost always. Rebalancing dampers, adding a return, sealing and straightening the duct run, or a transfer grille solve most cases for modest money. Whole-system answers are the last resort, not the first quote.

Closing doors makes some rooms stuffy. Why?

No return path. The supply air pressurizes the closed room, chokes its own airflow, and comfort dies. Undercuts, transfer grilles, or jump ducts restore the loop cheaply, it’s one of the highest-value small fixes in HVAC.

Is zoning worth it for a two-story house?

When upstairs and downstairs genuinely fight, and in Texas two-stories they usually do, zoning is a legitimate fix: separate thermostats, motorized dampers, each floor conditioned to its own reality. The assessment tells you whether cheaper corrections get you there first.
